Director: Sebastian Gutierrez

Writer: Sebastian Gutierrez

Cast: Gil Bellows (Emmit), Xander Berkeley (Moe), Alexis Bledel (Kim), Emmanuelle Chriqui (Teresa), Zackary Quinto (Nick), Rosario Dawson (June), Danny DeVito (Aldo),  Robert Forster (Dodge), Josh Hartnett (Sam Salazar), Michelle Ryan (Loretta) and Lauren Lee Smith (Karen).

Brief Plot: A dentist teams up with a feisty would-be assassin to put the final touches on the plan to kill his wife. Once he makes a play for the assassin's payment, he unknowingly sets off a chain of events that fuels a cross-town journey through the many lounges, bars, strip clubs and the occasional nudist ping pong club scattered across Los Angeles. Along the way, we are introduced to a series of idiosyncratic characters, from gangsters to exotic dancers, from ex-cons to cops, with the odd hatcheck girl and bartender thrown in for good measure. Review: After seeing “Bunraku” staring Josh Hartnett, we felt it only right to give his new movie “Girl Walks Into A Bar” a try out, especially as it promised such a very good casting and a more down to Earth story line plot.

Nick (Zackary Quinto of Heroes TV Series) is a Dentist by profession who believes that his wife, Camilla (Amber Valletta of Gamer) is having an affair, and so wants to hire the best hit man to have her killed. Having arranged to meet this professional hit man in a local bar, Nick is met by Francine Driver (Carla Gugino of Mr Popper’s Penguins and Sucker Punch), who questions Nick’s reasons for wanting his wife dead by professional means. It is now that the story takes a more upbeat pace of interlaced lives, much like that of a Tarantino film of Pulp.

Jumping from one character to the next, we find Nick meeting up with Aldo (Danny DeVito of Dr Seuss’ The Lorax), Francine who meets up with Loretta (Michelle Ryan of The Bionic Woman) and Sam Salazar (Josh Hartnett of Bunraku) meeting up with his estranged Father, Dodge (Robert Forster of CSI: NY). Questions are asked at an even pace, coincidental meets are fluctuated, and answers are forthcoming at various times of the film while the viewer is entranced within this ensemble casts injection of funny humour.

All in all, the film kept us entertained while at the same time kept us engrossed in the storyline of Nick and Francine. Of course, what exactly the difference is between the DVD and BluRay versions, we have no idea. What we do know is that Josh Hartnett deserves a fair crack of the whip and given the chance to star in a bigger role than a “Detective Style” film.
